At the Heart of America Humane Society, volunteers are our greatest asset.
Without our volunteers, it would be impossible to give each animal the exercise, training and socialization it really needs to
become someone’s new pet. To provide for the animals and their special needs, our volunteers organize fundraising events and
develop partnerships with local businesses.
You can care for a dog or cat during an adoption event, help set up for events, transport animals from the shelter to adoption locations, become a kitty angel, or help organize fundraisers.
What do you receive from volunteering with the Heart of America Humane Society?
Want to help? Here’s how:
First, contact our volunteer team.
to schedule a training session.
All new volunteers are required to attend a volunteer training before volunteering.
We are unable to accept any new volunteers under the age of 14. Volunteers between the ages of 14 thru 17 must have a responsible adult with them at all times.
Volunteer Positions | |
| Weekend Animal Handler | One of the most needed, fun, and appreciated jobs is the weekend handler. Every Saturday, Heart of America conducts adoptions for our shelter and foster dogs. You will care for a dog during the event, show the animals to prospective adopters, and accept donations for Heart of America Humane Society. |
| Event Set Up Team Member | As a member of the event set up team, you can help to set up and tear down for the weekly adoptions or help with the events scheduled throughout the year. |
| Animal Transport Team Member | The transport team makes it possible for potential adopters to meet the shelter dogs and cats. The animals depend on this team for the opportunity to find their forever family. Join the team and help transport the animals from one of our partner shelters to our adoption event and back to the shelter. |
| Kitty Angels | Some cats and kittens reside at Heart of America's Cat Worlds located at Petsmart, 115th and Metcalf and Petco, 135th and Blackbob. Become a kitty angel and help keep these beauties fed and watered! |
| Fundraisers | Heart of America relies on the talent of our fundraising teams to support its mission. If you have fundraising skills and experience, join this important Heart of America team! |
| Fostering | Foster “parents” temporarily board shelter animals in their own homes until they are adopted. There are special requirements for becoming a foster parent. Indicate your interest when you submit your volunteer form. |
| Join a Heart of America Team and make a difference in the lives of shelter dogs and cats. | |
